- Number of grades, salary ranges (width, overlap, steps), salary within the range, position categories and allowances, narrow ranges and broad pay bands (broadbanding).
- A project approach: communication plan and channels (corporate media, meetings, presentations) and principles: who to inform, what, when, why, where and how.

- setting an employee's salary within the range based on their appraisal;
